Château Mangot

Let’s go for a quick tour of the Saint-Emilion! And more specifically to the Chateau Mangot, in St Etienne de Lisse (AOC Saint Emilion Grand Cru).

Property of 37 hectares created from scratch in 1952 by Simone and Jean Petit, it is now run by the second generation (Anne Marie & Jean Guy Todeschini), surrounded for four years by two of their sons Karl & Yann.

During their time in 1989 Mr & Mrs Todeschini embarked on major works. Program, renovation of cellars, expansion, uprooting / replanting, rootstocks in line with the land ….

Respect for nature, innovation, love and respect for the land could be the motto this property.Back at the homestead in 2008 after many experiences in the vineyards around the world, Karl & Yann Todeschini continue their laps and bring to this great project at the Chateau Mangot, enthusiasm, precision and modernity.

This property produces four wines each year. But I especially want to tell you about the cuvée Todeschini .

A surprising wine at several points. On the one hand for its typicity “technical”. Indeed, this wine is composed of 70% Cabernet … in an area where Merlot is the “king” (99% of Saint Emilion wines have a majority of Merlot). And secondly for its vinification method is also surprising for a wine of the Bordeaux region: a full wine barrel (the grapes are in contact with the wood of the barrels at the beginning of the alcoholic fermentation).

Some features:

  • Vegetation management (is to support and maintain a vegetative cover, natural or planted in the vineyards. It also aims to protect the soil from climatic aggressions and keeps the ecosystem.)
  • Size double Guyot (with one or two spurs and two flat sticks. This allows a better expression optimizing vegetative maturation)
  • Practice disbudding (allows a greater concentration of the grapes, thereby promoting the quality of wine)
  • Late Harvest (for perfect ripeness)
  • A plot management of the property to make the most of each variety in each plot.
  • Sustainable agriculture (more respectful of nature / environment. This allows a significant reduction in pesticides).

Wines produced:

The anecdote of the property:

Château Mangot has a smartphone application, a relatively trivial thing for a chateau (they normally do not do that). Above you’ll find specifications, photos, videos … etc. …. proper application and very complete.

Thanks to the Todeschini family for her hospitality .
