Château La Tour de Bessan
Start this week in a prestigious appellation Margaux … and more specifically to the Chateau La Tour de Bessan (Margaux AOC)
Where does the name Château La Tour de Bessan come from?
The remnants of an ancient medieval building (XIII century) built to protect the local Lord of the period: Jehan Columbus.
More recently it was in 1972 that this area of 32hectares was acquired by Lucien Lurton, buying the family Clauzel.
It was in 1992 that this vineyard is taken over by his daughter, Marie-Laure Lurton. A graduate of Oenology and who has 6 strong years of experience on the properties of her father, she has learnt to know perfectly each plot to get the best out of it each year.
Upon arrival Mrs. Lurton established ambitious development projects that affect both the vineyard itself (planted 32ha) and the technical infrastructure. Unleashing the architect Vincent Defos Rau for the rehabilitation of a building in the region formerly known as “the Blokos”.
What a great success of rehabilitation to combine modern architecture and technical requirements (installation of an ergonomic tub, a barrel cellar and a tasting room)!
“Magic Transformation”, “artistic creativity”, these are the words of Marie-Laure to define her job … Nice definition of the winemaker as an artist! I agree!
What do you look for each year when creating the Château La Tour de Bessan‘ wines?
The elegance, finesse, work on the fruit, the perfect balance … (Note to myself: I can’t wait the tasting time!)
For the anecdote and the proper plan of the week: For all lovers of the vine and wine lovers as neophytes more enlightened, Tour de Bessan offers “blending workshops.”
Well you could tell me “it’s good but what is it? ”These workshops are aimed to help you discover / enjoy varieties individually in order to reveal the specifics. But that’s not all!
The time of a morning you are put in the shoes of an oenologist by assembling the grapes as YOU want in order to create your own bottle …. Personally I would see a “Chateau Jonathan”
Thanks to Marie-Laure Lurton for the warm hospitality.
