Château Le Tuquet

One of the bigger vineyard in AOC GRAVES (Bordeaux)

This week, let us start on a tour of Chateau Tuquet (Graves)

Beautiful homestead of 110 acres located Beautiran, it was built in 1730. A century later it was rebuilt by the architect of the Grand Théâtre de Bordeaux, Victor Louis. The vineyard date from the 18th century (shown on any map of Royal Belleyme). Since 1962 is the Ragon family who is in charge.

A merger between a land thousands of years old, a relentless weather, irreparable, and the violent march of nature, of the vine and the work of man” are the words of Alice De La Haye, the new family generation, to describe her job. What a beautiful definition of wine!

While talking to her I realized that her passion came naturally, I would not say that it is “innate”.Involved from an early age to various works of the vine that is easy to conceive (especially given the charm of the property!).

Rated wine: Madame De La Haye gives its full attention to grape maturity (including Cabernet) to accentuate the fruity and structured wine. Red, white, pink are the colors of their production.

What does it looks for? Regarding red wine not aggressiveness, but a subtle balance between concentration and roundness. For the white side, a be more aromatic, fruity wine.

Some features:

  • Variety: Cabernet Sauvignon 40% Merlot 55% Cabernet Franc 5% (with respect to red wine)
  • Type of soil: gravel
  • Ageing: 100% loan in barrels, of which 1/3 new barrels.

The story of the week: The Chateau Le Tuquet became the property of Madame Moitessier. Best known for the portrait by the painter Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres. It is presented in the National Gallery.

Thanks to the Ragon family for her warm hospitality.
