Peachy Canyon
The Paso Robles‘ “old school” winery
Peachy Canyon is a small family property situated in the valley of Templeton, in the region of Paso Robles. It was founded in 1988 by Doug and Nancy Beckett (this is one of the first three vineyards based in this region).
The first wine release under this label was a 1988 vintage Zinfandel. Given that the vineyard was not yet formed the first nectar was produced from grapes from Benito Dusi Vineyard (Paso Robles). Since then the vineyard has continued to grow, as well as the wine range.
Today Peachy Canyon produces from its own vineyards as well as four other vineyards selected for their respective qualities. This allows the Beckett family to enjoy a variety of the local land, which makes it have a great variety of grapes and therefore a wide aromatic palette.
Currently the property is still managed by the family Beckett, assisted by a small dynamic team that is totally passionate about the wine world.
Arriving at Peachy Canyon you’ll feel like a picture postcard: A wooden entrance gate style “OK Corral” little white house style wooden American Flag of the United States, garden with a picnic table …. long story short, a perfect little American paradise, like leaning against the counter with a glass of wine so you will not see the time pass by.
At the entrance of the house you will see a small sign with the scripture “Old school“, do not be surprised! Before becoming a ballroom for the vineyard “Peachy Canyon” this building hosted a school. When you visit, you will also see a few vestiges.
Why do you work in the world of wines?
Ryan Lopez (Wine Club Director & Direct to consumer sales of Peachy Canyon): “I feel wine lovers. I am passionate about cooking and good food. I always wanted to create a cooking school, to create my own restaurant but as time passed, I discovered a thirst for learning about wine … and it became a passion for me. ” The wine and food are two things inseparable. It is important to marry for good chemistry.
Personally I like to say that pairing and wine is like a marriage…. if there is one with a lot more personality than the other and if both are not common characters then the alchemy cannot be done.
Poems aside, let´s go back to business!
What are the words that can characterize this vineyard?
“Family“, “research quality“, “typical of the terroir“, “easy drinking wines *” (* fun wine easy to drink for all occasions).
How do people could recognize a Peachy Canyon wine in a blind taste?

Anecdote:
Strolling in the directory of wine from the Peachy Canyon you will find a wine called “Cirque du Vin”
Which is the reason of that name? Where is it?
After having decided to create a new wine, a blended wine, the Peachy Canyon team had the idea to launch a competition for members of the “Wine Club” to create a name and a label.
The best were selected and submitted to the vote of the “Wine Club”. So this vineyard is one of the first wine estates to be entrusted with the marketing of their wines …. to their consumers.
About this wine, I can say that is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Merlot and Petite Syrah.
If you’re in the area go see them! You will not want to leave!
