Four generations of savoir-faire in the production of Armagnac

 

 

 

vertdevin-bas-armagnac-delordThe history between the family Delord and Armagnac started in 1893 when Prosper Delord, traveling distiller in the Gers married Marie Duffau, daughter of a Armagnac winegrower. However it was not them but their children, Gaston and Georges Delord who being like their parents were passionate by Armagnac and inherited their property created the Delord House in 1932 in Lannepax (Gers, France). From the beginning she practiced the production, distillation and Armagnac trade.

As the years and generations passed by, the Delord House expanded increasing its production, its range, its vineyards and its activity.

Today the Delord House has a vineyard that spans 42 hectares in appellation Bas-Armagnac. It is masterfully directed by Sylvain and Jerome Delord. Sylvain is responsible for all production part while Jerome Delord handles all the commercial part and Marketing.

Currently Armagnac Delord are distributed around the world.

vertdevin-bas-armagnac-delord-3We succeeded our father in 2001 as it was always obvious that we would take over the family home, we grew up here, and then Armagnac is our family passion.

In my case, my visit was made later that my brother´s but it has been achieved. Before returning here I was working in a different area, I worked for the Schweppes company.

Upon our arrival we have restructured and modernized a lot of things. It was such a snatch and replanted plots and bought other vines. The property now has a new winery, enlarges the packaging space and bought a bottling chain.” (Jerome Delord)

There is more access of the people to the Armagnacs because I think that consumers buy one mostly because an Armagnac is an Armagnac, for its taste rather than a vintage. We also made some vintage Armagnac but it is not the heart of our production or that of our range. Depending on the wines we will distill once or twice, this varies but always distilled at 55/56 ° C or 60 ° C.

Personally I can not say what most characterizes our Armagnacs but people tell us it is the roundness and flexibility.” (Jerome & Sylvain Delord)

In my opinion what characterizes Armagnac Delord is that they are fruity and aromatic. They show some flexibility, roundness, fat and fleshy texture which regularly offers something close to candied pear on the palate. Alcohol is well controlled, it has elegance and balance.

Side story:

A match of the grandfather of Jérome and Sylvain was discovered a few years ago. In these letters he expressed the wish to hold high the history of the Armagnac Delord House and …. Half a century later we can say that the mission is accomplished!
