Château Maison Neuve
For our weekly discovery I decided to introduce to you the Château Maison Neuve (AOC 1ere Côtes de Blaye and Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux).
The Château Maison Neuve is a family property since 1889. The vineyard covers 41 hectares, including 35 in the first AOC Côtes de Blaye and 6 in Charente maritime near Cognac.
Young and dynamic winemaker, Alexia Eymas’ family took over in 2001 after completing studies in sociology. Nothing was needed to attract her to take over the family property but the call of family roots, the desire to face a challenge was brought to the vineyard.
It is since 2006 that she has brought brought a personal touch, feminine wines of the property.
Her trademark? A wine and a youthful image, uninhibited. Just like its website, its posters …
Alexia Eymas produces four wines: Red, White, Rose and Clairet. A special feature for this property, various tanks are produced, including a traditional vintage 14 months in French oak barrels, or a vintage “Clotilde” (red) Special Merlot, without ageing in barrels.
Grape varieties: 70% Merlot, 27% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Malbec (for spicy notes)
Soil: Clay and gravel-clay-limestone and siliceous Matured 1 year in oak barrels (one third new barrels)
For the anecdote, the property has vineyards abroad. Indeed as part of a town-twinning, the Château Maison Neuve has 400 vines (Merlot) Germany, in the city of Zülpich (North Rhine-Westphalia). The first harvest in 2012.
Thanks to Alexia Eymas for her super welcome.
