Château Trapaud

Château Trapaud

This week we discover a great wine of the appellation Saint-Emilion Grand Cru!

The Chateau is a family property Trapaud about 15ha in the family Larribière, for 4 generations.

The origin of this vineyard goes back to the 16th century, having the TRAPAUD as the founding family, and giving its name to the locality.

Since 1997 it is Beatrice who is in charge of the vineyard.

Young and dynamic vineyard is on these vintages, in perpetual search of fruit, finesse on the palate, the wine’s elegance and is the least marked by the tannin appearance like the Saint-Emilion usually are. (I could not wait to taste this nectar!).

For culture of the vine?

The Chateau Trapaud is currently “conversion (=turning) Bio”. That is to say that the vines are not treated with chemicals but with manure nettle house, Bordeaux mixture …. Etc.

Side projects?

Make white wine. But also developing wine tourism in order to discover his passion, his vineyard and show their wine to the neophytes.

Anecdote :

In the 16th century, Guyenne, especially in the village inhabited by Trapaud, the Protestant Reformation was on. Soon the whole family became protestant and was then forced into exile, particularly in England. Thus we find a few generations later a descendant: Trapaud Cyrus, who was the savior of the King of England at the Battle of Dettingen in 1743.

Thank to Beatrice Larribière for the great hospitality.
