vert-de-vin-folie-lucé-terquem (21)A small property located just outside Saumur, it was bought in 2009 by Loïc Terquem. It consists of a building which dates from the 15th century and 4 hectares of vines.

Loïc Terquem, unlike many owners does not come from a family of winegrowers that transmit their property from father to son. He was raised in a Parisian home and worked in the computer industry.

At the age of 47, tired of his job, he decided to carry out an assessment of competence and the results obtained were in relation to all the world of wine and grapes.

Then he started questioning with one hand the desire to return to the campaign (he regularly stayed in his teens), to create a vineyard and on the other hand the responsibility of a family, school children in Paris and a woman who also works in the capital.

vert-de-vin-folie-lucé-terquem (13)The dilemma ended when, shortly after these questioning his wife asked him to leave the region of Paris. At the age of 47 he decided to retrain and went in search of a place close to Paris (for the work of his wife), a carrier and with vineyards at an affordable price. Simultaneously with his research he trained BPREA Montreuil to try to acquire the skills that were necessary to be a winegrower.

After a year of reflection he came to Saumur region. Following the advice of a former restaurateur he came into contact with Yves Drouineau, former owner of the vineyard. He was seduced by the terroir and after that he decided to settle there.

vert-de-vin-folie-lucé-terquem (9)Starting with one today Terquem Loïc has four. He puts all his energy to pamper his vineyards and wines to give birth to look like him. Natural wines, dynamic, friendly, thin and young.

His motto? To produce natural wines without impact on the environment.

How can you recognize your wines during a blind tasting?

What distinguishes the red wines of Domaine de la Folie Lucé is that they are “more on the oxidative reduction. This may be due to the fact that I am looking for ‘big’ maturity ‘. This wine is “open” and rich fruity.

Where does the name “Domain la Folie Lucé” come from?

The name of this dominion consists of two words, the first “folie” (“madness” in english) refers to the mound “folie” which is located on a plot. The word madness also refers to the path Loïc Terquem who left everything to come here.

As long as “LuCé” it is simply a reference to the children of Loïc and his wife, who´s proud parents wanted a name combining the names of their children Lucas and Caesar.

vert-de-vin-folie-lucé-terquem (27)Where do the atypical names wines come from?

L’ecart” because it is produced with grapes from the plot the “cards” but also because this wine is very tense, very atypical compared to other wines of the area.

For “Encore” because it is a fun wine to enjoy with friends. End of each glass was called to take another.

Regarding the vintage “Autrement” is a simple explanation, I quote Loïc “because he had to call it something else.” Yes! Why make it complicated when it can be easy!

Side project

This dynamic winemaker is in full consideration of the opportunity to have more vines. He sees a real interest in working alone on small plots and do not want to lose the quality of work and its freedom. However on the other hand, with its success, additional plots would allow it to produce other wines.

vert-de-vin-folie-lucé-terquem (26)Side anecdote

The year of his installation his wife gave him for his birthday a statue called “Tipsy or slightly tipsy” (Pompette ou légèrement éméché) performed by a sculptor friend (Pauline Morand Baste). She rained so he made the emblem of his estate.

Today the sculpture sits proudly on the mantelpiece but its shadow larger version is also on the portal, on the website and on the packaging …. A “tipsy or slightly tipsy” consumed without moderation on communication tools Madness Lucé.

vert-de-vin-folie-lucé-terquem (6)Thanks to Terquem Loic and his wife for their great hospitality.
