San Marcos Creek Vineyard
“Making good wine always starts in the vineyard …“
San Marcos Creek Winery is a small family vineyard owned in the Paso Robles region and created in 1992. Dreaming of owning a vineyard for their retirement and wanting to leave stressful city life, Annette and Fling Traylor got in the early 1990s, an property that was then a sheep ranch. Upon their arrival they restored the buildings, created the necessary tools for winemaking and planted more than 40 hectares of vines. The first vintage was bottled in the 2003. Before that date the production was taken over by another “winery”. 
In the early 2000s they were joined by their daughter Catherine and her husband Brady followed in 2008 by the arrival of James Taylor, and thus fulfilling the second dream Fling and Annette working family. Today the wines of San Marcos Creek combine typical of the Central Coast, the biggest influences in the worlds wine regions (Bordeaux typical breeding, connections, varieties of the Rhone Valley, Bordeaux, California, but also from Italy …) as well as the expertise California.
On a personal note …
To arrive at the winery you leave Highway 101 to enter instantly in a magical place where peace reigns, the scenery, the small houses and magical nature. Ducks sit under a willow tree while the swaggering peacock around the small lake. If you decide to climb the small hill in front of you you’ll have a stunning view (which personally made me feel breathless) … a 360 ° panorama of the desert, the mountains and the vineyards that appear under a big blue sky! Brief, as you can see the side scenery is just beautiful!
Focus on the area of Paso Robles :
Paso Robles is a city of 30,000 inhabitants which lies close to the Pacific and midway between San Francisco and Los Angeles. The Paso Robles area is part of the “Central Coast“. It includes more than 270 vineyards which makes it the third after California Wine Country after the Sonoma Valley and, Napa Valley. 
The region is at the crossroads of the Pacific and influences fresh air hot desert which allows it to be spared from the hot desert to benefit from more frequent rain in the land but also a cool mist essential for the vines during the summer in California. These perfect conditions for the cultivation of vine were identified by the Spanish settlers during their ascent of the California coast. They created the first vineyards in the late 18th century. Making it the second historically wine region after San Luis Obispo County. 
Currently, the regio is known for its mountains, hot springs and for being one of the wine regions producing the greatest variety of wines (over 50 different varieties. Variety I mean by “grape“, “blending“, “type of wine“). Despite the fact of this notoriety in recent years believes, this region is still in the shadow of her two older sisters of North: Napa Valley and Sonoma Valley. The wines of the region have generally quite an alcoholic fruit flavors with a strong presence and a good balance.
The Wine Festival in Paso Robles 
If you’re in the area in May there is an event not to miss the Paso Robles Wine Festival. It is an event that takes place every year for 31 years. It meets in downtown Paso Robles (City Park) more than 70 wineries in the region. On this occasion are organized, of course, but also multiple tastings initiations to wine tasting, cooking workshops, concerts….total of more than 100 events in two days. Anecdote:
Much of wines named after precious stones: sapphire, ruby, topaz. Moreover, even wear their labels colors, metallic effects / stony. The right plan of this step is what offers room service to guests.
