Vertical tasting of Château Rabaud-Promis, 1er Grand Cru Classé of Sauternes
A tasting of Sauternes wines from 1940 to 2013
On 16 December 2013 the Dejean family, owners of Château Rabaud-Promis (1er Grand Cru Classé of Sauternes) invited a dozen enthusiasts, professionals and amateurs to come and participate in their annual vertical tasting of forty vintages of the property. A great event that is punctuated (after the exercise, time for comfort!) By an outdoor lunch … a great program for a great day! So below you will find my comments for the tasting accompanied by hint for the agreement with the different wines. Before anything, let´s take a look to a little bit of vocabulary! What is a vertical tasting?
This is a tasting of the same wine (same property) made in different vintages. This tasting has the advantage, in addition to discover the differences between vintages update characteristics of wine, a varietal or terroir but also get an idea of how the wine changes and ages in the property.
